Zhu Fenglian, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said: the purpose of removing the black sheep that undermine relations between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait is basically to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and to ensure the safety and well-being of the vast number of Taiwan compatriots. More and more Taiwan compatriots have seen through the sinister intentions and deceptive tactics of the Democratic Progressive Party authorities, and have shown a strong desire to actively participate in exchanges between the two shores and promote the development of relations between the two shores.
According to the statistics, from January to June this year, 2,083,000 personnel exchanges took place between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, up 99.5 % year-on-year, of which 1,928,000 Taiwan compatriots came to the mainland, up 103.2 % year-on-year.
I hope that our Taiwan compatriots will grasp the general trend of history, uphold national righteousness, clearly oppose the irreconcilable elements of "Taiwan independence," actively participate in exchanges and cooperation between the two sides of the Straits, and jointly protect the common homeland of the Chinese nation.
