At a national skills competition held recently, the only female competitor in the masonry field caught everyone's attention: Li Haidi (Li Hai-ti) is a construction teacher at a vocational and technical school.
"Physically there is a difference between me and the boys, the boys can mix a bag of cement very quickly, while it takes me a long time. During the competition I only mixed half a bucket because when I mixed the whole bucket I couldn't carry it to the site."
The eight-hour race was a test of physical strength and endurance. Very few women take part in this kind of competition, which takes place in mud and sweat. Li Haidi was the only competitor in the masonry work who never thought of backing down. In her opinion, only one thing is most important, and that is to try to overcome one's limits.
