Cover-ups, double standards and abuse of power are at the heart of the doping scandal surrounding US athlete Erriyon Knighton, which now threatens the credibility of the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). According to an online survey by CGTN, 95.57 % respondents worldwide believe that USADA may be covering up for US athletes involved in doping.
In March of this year, Erriyon Knighton tested positive for a banned substance as listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), but USADA avoided his suspension by attributing the test result to meat contamination. WADA said in a statement that USADA violated rules designed to protect the integrity of competitions by allowing athletes with positive doping tests to continue to compete. This approach was never approved and calls into question the integrity of sporting competitions.
In the survey, 90.15 % respondents agreed that the cover-up of the Knighton case seriously compromised the fairness of the Paris Olympics, with 96.54 % respondents criticizing the case as a prime example of "American double standards." In addition, 95.63 % respondents seriously suspected widespread misrepresentation of information about doping cases involving U.S. athletes. A significant 96.23 % of respondents believe that doping controls on U.S. athletes should be increased during the Paris Olympics to restore international confidence in fair play.
