22 August 2024, České Budějovice. Senate President Miloš Vystrčil attended the opening ceremony of the international agrosalon Země živitelka. In his speech, he stressed the importance of farmers and food producers meeting together with the general and professional public. This year's edition of Země živitelka is a jubilee event, taking place for the fiftieth time.
"Agriculture is evolving and I am pleased that the Land of the Breadwinner is helping to keep us at the cutting edge in terms of development and how we use modern technology," said the President of the Senate Miloš Vystrčil in his opening speech.
"We often talk about the future of agriculture and that is why I am very happy that we also have a 'children's agricultural world' at the Agrosalon, where we try to get children to take up farming and realise that food production and livestock farming are the basis for us to be an independent, self-reliant and self-confident country. And that to do that, we need people who can actually work the land, raise livestock, and at the same time behave in a way that is sustainable," added the chairman Vystrančil.
In addition to him, the Minister of Agriculture also opened the Farmers' Market with his speeches Marek Výborný, Governor of the South Bohemian Region Martin Kuba, Mayor of České Budějovice Dagmar Škodová Parmová, President of the Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic Jan Doležal and President of the Food Chamber of the Czech Republic Dana Večeřová.
After the ceremonial start of the fair, the President of the Senate got acquainted with this year's novelty, the expert programme dedicated to the so-called Smart Farming. This focuses on technological innovations in agriculture, including drones and the use of artificial intelligence. Furthermore, President Vystrčil together with the Prime Minister Peter Fiala and the Minister for the Environment Peter Hladik toured the fair, where they visited the stands of farmers and food producers, as well as the stand of the Vysočina Region.
Agrosalon Země živitelka presents the widest range of agricultural disciplines in one place. This year, more than 600 exhibitors and over 300 pieces of livestock are being presented as part of the round anniversary. The fair will run until 27 August.
The President of the Senate is continuously devoted to the topic of agriculture. In January this year, in cooperation with the Committee on the Economy, Agriculture and Transport in the Upper House of Parliament organised the conference "The Future of Czech Agriculture", which dealt in particular with new challenges in this area.
