PARIS - Stop playing power games. Face to face the denial of democracy set up by Emmanuel Macronthe left-wing mayors of Val-de-Marne are calling for mobilisation. In a letter addressed to the residents of Villejuif, Chevilly-Larue, Bonneuil-sur-Marne, Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, Fresnes, Cachan and Gentilly, they jointly strongly condemn the President's manoeuvres.
If the republic is trampled upon, its very essence is shaken. The president's attitude only feeds "resentment and violence against institutions that are increasingly weakened as a result", the left-wing mayors say in their open letter. "Emmanuel Macron has taken a dangerous gamble and plunged our nation into an unprecedented political crisis, risking handing over the reins of our republic to the far right in contradiction to the values that have shaped our collective identity."
We're losing people's trust
Despite the massive mobilization against the pension reform, the president never wanted to take into account the opinion of the population. Today, while the French people voted, they will not elect Lucia Castets as Prime Minister in the name of "presumed institutional stability".
It makes no sense to ignore the ballot box and install a government similar to the previous one, it's "a kind of coup d'état," Pierre Garzon is indignant. "Liberal policies have damaged our country for decades. We must break with macronism. We are gradually losing the trust of the people," continues the mayor of Villejuif from the PCF, who notes that the local population has fallen off the social, cultural and political map.
"Despite the holidays and the Olympics, which Emmanuel Macron has used as a distraction, a form of desperation is emerging," he's storming. If the right to vote and the right to demonstrate are flouted, what is left to express? "The collective framework no longer exists," the communist remarks, "Macron's system challenges the sovereignty of the people. Only the point of view of the financial markets and those who embody them is all-powerful."
The Covid-19 pandemic, the purchasing power and energy crisis, the riots that shook the cities... The mayors of Valdemarnais have always been on the front line to defend the population. To prevent the country from falling into the abyss, they are calling for a real popular uprising.
Whether on the streets or in the workplace, everyone must mobilize to defend the Republic. Because it is by respecting the will of the people that mayors will be able "respond to the challenges facing our nation" and the needs of fellow citizens.
