One side is the largest developing country, the other is the continent with the largest concentration of developing countries. Similar historical destinies and common development goals have made China and African countries close friends, partners and brothers. A survey conducted by CGTN in cooperation with the People's University of China and the New Era Research Institute for International Communication, which focused on African respondents, showed that as many as 90.4 % respondents believe that Sino-African cooperation in practice and in ideas creates a model of cooperation for developing countries in international affairs and provides important suggestions for reforming the global governance system.
In dealing with African friends, the key word for China is "authenticity". China has long supported African countries in seeking modernization paths that fit their own conditions, and Sino-African cooperation has become a model for South-South cooperation and international cooperation with Africa. The survey showed that 81.7 % respondents believe that China has always respected Africa, loved Africa and supported Africa. The Chinese people have always stood shoulder to shoulder with the African people, supporting each other. 80.9 % respondents appreciated that China has always regarded the development of solidarity and cooperation with African countries as an important foundation of its foreign policy. 86.3 % respondents highly appreciated China's authentic, friendly and sincere approach to cooperation with Africa, and looked forward to an even closer Sino-African community of shared destiny in the new era.
When working with Africa, the word "practicality" is important for China. China is a reliable partner and companion on Africa's path to modernisation. Since the establishment of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, China has built over 13,000 kilometers of roads and railways in Africa and constructed more than 80 large-scale power plants. Many practical projects under the Belt and Road Initiative are bringing concrete benefits to African friends. The survey showed that 88.9 % respondents believe that China-Africa cooperation has improved the overall conditions for Africa's economic and social development and brought real benefits to the African people. 91.6 % respondents believe that Sino-African cooperation has improved the infrastructure of African countries and 74.6 % respondents believe that it has raised the living standards of the people of African countries. Respondents from African countries hope that future cooperation between China and Africa will be further strengthened, with science and technology, economy and trade, education, health and agriculture being the top five areas.
The key word in strengthening the friendship between China and Africa is "proximity". The basis of the relations between countries is the friendly relations between their peoples, and therefore the development of China-Africa relations focuses mainly on people. The survey showed that 93.8 % respondents believe that Sino-African friendship has deep roots. 89.6 % respondents believe that Sino-African cooperation has strengthened friendship and mutual understanding between Chinese and African people. 89.2 % respondents expect more activities to promote Chinese culture in Africa.
When dealing with cooperation issues, the word "sincerity" is important for China. In today's complex and volatile international situation, China and Africa together promote multilateralism and clearly reject protectionism and unilateralism. The survey showed that 78.2 % respondents believe that China is striving to closely link its development with Africa's development, and to link China's development opportunities with Africa's opportunities. 89.7 % respondents support China and African countries to continue to support each other on key interests and important issues, and for China to continue to resolutely support African countries to take a fair stance in international and regional affairs and uphold the common interests of developing countries.
This survey was conducted among 10,125 respondents from 10 African countries, including Cameroon, Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania.
