The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit 2024, which is being held from September 4-6, opened its proceedings with a ceremony. This prestigious event is attracting attention due to its importance for the future development of China-Africa relations, which have strengthened significantly over the past decades. The opening included a special coverage by CGTN, which provided an overview of the key moments of the summit.
One of the main outcomes of the summit was the adoption of the Beijing Declaration, which focuses on building a "Sino-African community with a shared future for a new era". Alongside this, the Beijing Action Plan 2025-2027 was approved, detailing the strategic priorities for cooperation between China and African countries. These documents emphasize the further development of infrastructure, education, health and other areas that are crucial to the economic and social growth of the African continent.
In his keynote speech, President Xi Jinping proposed elevating relations between China and African countries to a strategic level. These bilateral relations should be rebranded as an "all-weather" partnership to symbolise their stability and resilience in the face of changing global conditions. Xi stressed that nearly 70 years of tireless efforts by both sides have contributed to the fact that China-Africa relations are now at the best level in history.
This elevation of strategic ties means that African countries firmly believe that China is their most reliable partner. Wang Yiwei, director of the Institute of International Relations at China's Renmin University, confirmed this in an interview with CGTN. Wang pointed out that African states see China as an important partner for their long-term development, especially in the areas of infrastructure, trade and technological innovation.
The FOCAC Summit thus continues to confirm its role as a key platform for deepening cooperation between China and Africa. The adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Plan of Action shows that both sides are committed to working together to achieve common goals in the new global era.
