DUBAI, Sept 12 - At least 50 people have been killed in airstrikes and airstrikes by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) during its large-scale operation in the West Bank that began on 28 August, the Al Jazeera.
According to the news station, 21 people were killed in Jenin, 12 in Tulkarem, 13 in Tubas, one in Nablus and three people were killed in Hebron. According to Al Jazeera, the ongoing Israeli offensive in the West Bank is the largest since the early 2000s. The military campaign is mainly focused on the north of the West Bank.
Tensions in the Middle East flared up again on October 7, 2023, when fighters from the Gaza-based Palestinian radical group Hamas made a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Hamas described its attack as a response to the Israeli authorities' aggressive actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City. In response, Israel has declared a state of war emergency; it has declared a total blockade of the Gaza Strip, where 2.3 million Palestinians live, and has launched air strikes on the enclave and parts of Lebanon and Syria, to be followed by a ground operation in the enclave. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
