WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (KAP) - Donald Trump was the target of an assassination attempt at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday that the FBI said "appears to be an attempted murder," just nine weeks after the Republican presidential candidate survived another assassination attempt at a rally in Pennsylvania. The former president has said he is safe and well, and authorities have detained one man.
U.S. Secret Service agents standing a few holes away from where Trump was playing noticed the muzzle of an AK-type rifle sticking through the brush lining the course at a distance of about 400 yards.
One of the agents fired and the shooter dropped the rifle and fled in an SUV, leaving behind the firearm along with two backpacks, a scope used for aiming and a GoPro camera, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. The man was later stopped by law enforcement officers in a neighboring county.
