PRAGUE - The Embassy of the People's Republic of China hosted a ceremony to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the PRC and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the PRC and the Czech Republic. The opening speech was delivered by Chinese Ambassador FENG Biao 冯飙, followed by speeches by former Czech President Václav Klaus, former Prime Minister Jiří Paroubek and Deputy Foreign Minister Eduard Hulicius. They also cut the festive cake.
"China's modernization is modernization on the path of peaceful development, and China will continue to create development opportunities for the world through its own modernization achievements. As friends and partners, China is ready to work with the Czech side to uphold the principles of mutual respect, equal treatment and mutual benefit, continue to deepen friendly cooperation in all fields, and promote the healthy and stable development of Sino-foreign relations to bring more benefits to the two countries and peoples," Chinese Ambassador FENG Biao 冯飙 said.
According to Klaus, China has - in three quarters of a century - made enormous progress. "In the last three or four decades in particular, China's economy and the living standards of its fourteen hundred million people have taken a leap forward - unprecedented in world history.
Geopolitically, China has become one of the world's major players. This gives your country the opportunity to contribute to a positive solution to many of the world's daunting problems and - which we in this part of the world consider extremely important - to end both the tragic war between Russia and Ukraine and the similarly tragic situation in the Middle East.
After the radical changes that began in our country in the late 1980s, some of us have tried to give our relationships a new impetus. It was I who, thirty years ago - as Prime Minister of the Czech Republic - led the first high-level delegation to the People's Republic of China.
I am convinced that we - at that time - laid a solid foundation for friendly and fruitful relations between our countries. Since then, China has become our second largest trading partner. We import many kinds of industrial goods from your country. Your country is also a very important export market for us. We wish that trade and economic cooperation will not only continue but also deepen in the future. I would like to stress that it has been and is in our interest to have productive and developing economic relations with your country.
Unfortunately, after a positive restart three decades ago, our economic relations have fallen victim to our internal political disputes on the one hand and the growing tensions between world powers on the other. I can assure you, Ambassador, that this is not in our long-term interest. I wish to see the traditional friendship and partnership between the peoples of our countries continue and contribute to our mutual prosperity and stability.," Klaus said.
The Chinese folklore ensemble of children and youth and a string quartet provided the cultural interlude.
