BEIJING, Sept 28 - Washington should stop slandering China and imposing sanctions on Chinese companies over the Ukraine crisis, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken when they met in New York.
"The US should stop vilifying and baselessly accusing China and indiscriminately imposing sanctions," Wang Yi said in a statement on the Chinese Foreign Ministry website.
Wang Yi warned the US against using the Ukraine issue to foment confrontation.
"China has always insisted on promoting peace and negotiations and has itself tried to seek a political settlement," Wang Yi continued.
Wang Yi accused the US of having a "double face"
"The U.S. can't keep two faces on China all the time," Wang Yi said in a statement published on the Chinese Foreign Ministry's website. "On the one hand, you recklessly contain and suppress China, on the other hand, you talk about cooperation."
Since the US has repeatedly stated that it has no intention of entering into conflict with China, it is necessary to establish a proper understanding from the outset and then build correct relations, Wang Yi told Blinken in an interview.
Earlier, Wang Yi met with Brazilian Presidential Foreign Policy Adviser Celso Amori in New York and said that China, Brazil and other countries of the Global South will establish a Friends of Peace platform to work for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine crisis. He stressed that it will not be a closed group but an open platform seeking inclusive dialogue.
