Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský remains a member of the Government after the Pirates leave the cabinet. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) announced this after a meeting with him today. He considers continuity in the leadership of Czech diplomacy important.
Lipavský resigned from the Czech Pirate Party after the Pirates announced their departure from government. "The Pirates supported the party's withdrawal from the coalition agreement because of a substantial breach of the terms of the agreement by Czech PM Petr Fiala. 709 of the 894 Pirate members who participated in the online vote were in favour. Thus, 79.3 percent of those voting expressed support for the proposal. Pirate ministers Jan Lipavský and Michal Šalomoun will resign on Tuesday, 1 October." the Pirates said yesterday on their website.
"The President has accepted my proposal to dismiss Ivan Bartos from the Government. The President and I both have an interest in ensuring that the changes to the cabinet positions are resolved very quickly. By the end of next week I would like to make all the necessary changes so that the government can continue to work for the citizens and be more efficient and effective.
My idea is that I will not propose filling the position of Minister for Legislation. However, I would like to commend the current Minister, Michal Šalomoun, who is doing an excellent job.
I would like to appoint the Minister for Regional Development at the time when we are changing the post of Minister of Industry and Trade, because Jozef Síkela will soon leave for Brussels. We will continue to discuss the position of Foreign Minister within the coalition. I imagine that Jan Lipavský will remain in the Government. I would see this as positive for the government and the Czech Republic," the Prime Minister said yesterday.
