Israeli strikes on Lebanon leave 1974 dead and 9384 wounded
Lebanese Minister for Health Firas Abiad announced on Thursdaythat since the start of the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel in October last year, a total of 1974 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 127 children and 261 women, and 9 384 others have been injured.
Abiad confirmed that Israeli airstrikes had damaged dozens of medical centres, resulting in the deaths of 97 medics and paramedics.
He noted that a number of hospitals had been directly targeted, adding to the burden on the Lebanese health system, which was already under enormous pressure due to numerous crises.
The Minister also rejected the Israeli accusations regarding the presence of weapons in hospitals and stressed that these accusations were unfounded.
Since 23 September, the Israeli army has been carrying out intensive airstrikes on Lebanon in a dangerous escalation of the conflict with Hezbollah.
Since 8 October 2023, Hezbollah and the Israeli army have been exchanging fire on the Lebanese-Israeli border amid fears of a wider conflict as the war between Hamas and Israel continues in the Gaza Strip.
