ASHGABAT, Oct 11 - Russia and Iran are actively cooperating on the international scene and often make similar assessments of events, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"We actively cooperate on the international scene and our assessments of current events in the world are often very close," Putin stressed in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeskian.
This is the first meeting between the two presidents. Kremlin adviser Yuri Ushakov said earlier that the sides would discuss bilateral issues as well as the situation in the Middle East.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin are attending the meeting on the Russian side.
