BRUSSELS, 11 October. Foreign ministers of the European Union member states will discuss new sanctions against Russia at their scheduled meeting in Luxembourg on 14 October under the banning mechanism agreed on 8 October, a senior EU spokesman told reporters in Brussels.
"There will be an exchange of views on sanctions. As you know, the new regime was approved on 8 October. We expect member countries to propose a list under the new regime," he said.
The ministers will also discuss the issue of combating the circumvention of sanctions against Russia. "The sanctions regime probably needs to be changed to make it more difficult to circumvent sanctions," the diplomat added.
The EU Council approves a new interdiction mechanism to counter Russia's alleged "destabilising actions" abroad. The Council will decide exclusively on what will be considered "hybrid actions" and "interference" as put forward by EU members or its foreign affairs service.
