President Xi Jinping encouraged the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) to focus on quality development and improve its ability to provide humanitarian services. Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in his letter on the occasion of the RCSC's 12th General Assembly held in Beijing on Wednesday.
In the letter, Si expressed his gratitude to all Red Cross workers, members and volunteers in the country and shared his expectations for their future efforts. He praised the RCSC as a bridge and link between the Party, the government and the people in the humanitarian field and urged the organization to deepen reforms, innovate and enhance its credibility.
President Xi also called on the RCSC to contribute to building a modern socialist country and achieving national renewal. He also encouraged workers and volunteers to stick to their original aspirations and strive for the new development of the Red Cross.
At the opening ceremony of the congress, awards were presented to 32 groups and 10 individuals for outstanding performances. Founded in 1904, RCSC is the oldest humanitarian organization in China.
