* The KDU-ČSL 2024 National Congress elected a new presidium
Czech Agriculture Minister Marek Výborný became the party's chairman, winning 159 votes out of 288 cast in the second round of the election. Pavel Bělobrádek was elected First Vice-Chairman, with 197 delegates out of 279 votes cast supporting him. The other members of the elected Bureau were Monika Brzesková, Jiří Horák, Václav Pláteník and Eduard Hulicius. (more here)

* Israel confirmed that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Agency (ISA) jointly confirmed on Thursday that Israeli soldiers killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. "IDF soldiers from the Southern Command eliminated Yahya Sinwar ... during an operation in the southern Gaza Strip," the Israeli army said in a statement. (more here)
* Annual inflation in the euro area fell to 1.7 %. In the EU, it fell to 2.1 %
The annual inflation rate in the euro area reached 1.7 % in September 2024, down from 2.2 % in August. A year earlier, it was 4.3 %. Annual inflation in the European Union was 2.1 % in September 2024, down from 2.4 % in August. A year earlier, it was 4.9 %. (more here)
* Median: ANO and the Mayors' preferences are growing. Pirates and SPD lost in September
According to Median's election model for September, five political parties and movements would make it into the Chamber of Deputies. ANO has the highest voter preference (33 %). This is followed by ODS (11.5 %), STAN (11 %), Pirates (8.5 %) and SPD (7 %). TOP 09, KSČM and Přísaha would not get into the Chamber of Deputies in September. They have identically 4.5 %. * Věra Plívová-Šimková, director of famous children's films, died at the age of 90
Director Věra Plívová-Šimková, author of films, died at the age of 90 Wow guys, Krakonoš and skiers or How to spin Rosemary. In her films she discovered several later acting stars. For example, moderator and actor Jan Kraus or Marek Vašut started in her films. She made 17 films. In 2018 she won the Czech Lion for her extraordinary contribution to Czech cinema, and in 1999 she won the same award at the Zlín Film Festival. (more here)
