BEIJING, Oct 26 - Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for efforts to improve inclusive public services for the people.
In a recent instruction on civil affairs work, Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed the need to strengthen public services aimed at meeting people's basic needs and ensuring a basic standard of living for those facing difficulties.
Praising the new progress made in all aspects of civic affairs in recent years, Xi Jinping urged Party committees and governments at all levels to follow a people-centered approach and tackle the most practical problems that are the biggest and most immediate for the people.
He called on civil affairs unions at all levels to push for the implementation of a proactive national strategy in response to an ageing population and to improve work in the fields of social assistance, social welfare, social affairs and social governance.
Xi also stressed the need for the civil affairs department to take the initiative in enhancing people's benefits, meeting their needs and helping them overcome difficulties.
Xi's instruction was read out at a national conference on civil affairs held in Beijing from Friday to Saturday. Premier Li Qiang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, addressed the conference.
