China has decided to file a complaint with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over the EU's final decision on anti-subsidy measures against Chinese electric vehicles, a Commerce Ministry spokesman said on Monday.
The spokesman stressed that the move is aimed at protecting the development interests of the electric vehicle industry and promoting global cooperation in the field of green transformation.
Despite China's earlier appeal to the WTO over the EU's original anti-subsidy measures, the spokesman expressed regret that the EU had moved to impose high countervailing duties on Chinese electric vehicles. This measure was taken despite objections from EU governments, industry stakeholders and the public.
China strongly opposes the EU's decision, the spokesman said, adding that the measures have no factual and legal basis, violate WTO rules and constitute an abuse of trade remedies under the guise of countervailing measures, which amounts to trade protectionism.
China calls on the EU to acknowledge its mistakes, swiftly correct these illegal practices and work together to ensure the stability of the global electric vehicle industry and supply chain, as well as the broader economic and trade relationship between China and the EU.
