MOSCOW - 15 November. On the initiative of the German side, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin held the first telephone conversation with Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz since December 2022.
There was a detailed and frank exchange of views on the situation in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin recalled that the current crisis is a direct consequence of NATO's long-term aggressive policy, which aims to create an anti-Russian bridgehead on the territory of Ukraine, while ignoring the security interests of our country and violating the rights of the Russian-speaking population.
Regarding the prospects for a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict, the Russian president noted that the Russian side has never refused and remains open to resuming the negotiations that were interrupted by the Kiev regime. Russia's proposals are well known and were mentioned, among other things, in a speech at the Russian Foreign Ministry in June. Any agreements should take into account the security interests of the Russian Federation, be based on new territorial realities and, above all, address the root causes of the conflict.
He also touched on the situation in Russian-German relations. Vladimir Putin noted their unprecedented deterioration in all directions as a result of the hostile course of the German authorities. It was stressed that Russia has always strictly fulfilled its contractual and contractual obligations in the energy sector and is ready for mutually beneficial cooperation if there is interest on the German side.
The deteriorating situation in the Middle East was discussed. Vladimir Putin reported on Russia's efforts to de-escalate and find a peaceful solution to the crisis in the region.
It was agreed that the Assistant Leaders would be in touch after the interview.
