Black boxes from the DHL cargo plane that crashed in Vilnius on Monday were recovered around 11:30 a.m. and removed from the wreckage of the plane, the Justice Ministry said Tuesday.
The inspection of the plane will be completed within three days and later the aircraft will be removed from the site, authorities said earlier on Tuesday.
"We are continuing to plan the pre-trial investigation. I think the site inspection can be completed within the next two to three days," said on Tuesday at a press conference in Vilnius the Commissioner General of Police Arūnas Paulauskas.
"After that, the next phase will follow - the removal of the remains of the aircraft from the site. At the moment we are actively looking for a hangar where we can place these parts," He added.
A 48-year-old Spanish citizen was killed and three other crew members, a Spaniard, a German and a Lithuanian, were injured when a DHL cargo plane crashed near Vilnius airport on Monday morning. One of the injured men is in critical condition.
According to Arthur Urbelise, chief prosecutor of the Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Division of the Prosecutor General's Office, at least 19 witnesses were questioned on Monday in connection with the accident.
Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the National Crisis Management Centre, said the investigation into the accident was entering its next phase.
"The key message today is that we are entering the next phase, where we are moving from extricating and inspecting the crash site [...] to calmly and rigorously investigating the information, collecting data and comparing it with the data we have collected from the crash site and from the aircraft," He said.
