The digitisation of public administration in the Czech Republic is progressing rapidly, and next year the state will launch a number of new digital services that will significantly facilitate the daily lives of citizens and businesses. It will now be possible to process online, for example, maternity and nursing benefits, applications for job placement or unemployment benefits. It will also be possible to report the loss of an identity card or the birth of a child electronically. The government's plans for digitisation were presented at a press conference on Wednesday 27 November 2024 by Prime Minister Petr Fiala, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka and Minister of Transport Martin Kupka.
The Prime Minister emphasised the great progress the government has made in the digitalisation of public administration over the past few years. "When our government came into office, it was common for people to go online to arrange mortgages, buy holidays etc. But the state didn't allow that, you had to go to the office for practically everything, spend hours waiting in line. Our government managed to change all this in a few years. Today the situation is completely different and people have great opportunities to do many things online. I say with full responsibility: although we are not without problems, we are digitising much better than Germany and we will continue to do so next year." said Prime Minister Fiala. It is already possible to process applications for parental allowance, child benefit or housing allowance online in the Czech Republic, as well as to file tax returns or process pensions electronically.
The digitalisation of the citizen's contact with the state is moving forward again from January 2025. "The Czech Social Security Administration will be a fully digitalised office from 1 January next year 100 %. The last agendas that will be available for online processing from 1 January are maternity leave and sick leave. This will put an end to running around with paper from the doctor. From 95 %, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs' agendas will then be digitised. These will be integrated especially in our Client Zone Jenda," added the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marian Jurečka. From the comfort of your home, it will now be possible to process an application for employment mediation or an application for unemployment benefit electronically via the Jenda Client Zone. In July next year, the pilot project of the Unified Monthly Employer Reporting will also start, which will provide relief to companies.
The Home Office will launch a new portal in February 2025 with digital forms with pre-populated data available to the state. "Thanks to it, 114 services of the Ministry can be easily handled online, for example, to report the loss of an ID card, to change the address for delivery of documents or to report the birth of a child. At the same time, digitisation is also associated with a number of cases of new legislation that the Ministry of the Interior is working on. Whether it is the new election management information system, the e-Matrix system or the digitisation of the arms and aliens agenda. These systems will be launched in the coming years," said the Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan.
The transport portal already offers dozens of online services for the transport agenda; this year, for example, the possibility of electronic re-registration of a vehicle to a new owner was introduced. "Next year, we will finalise the most important practical online services and will have almost all the most important services in the field of transport agencies digitised. By the end of the year, we are still planning to introduce new functionalities of the Transport Portal - for example, notifications of upcoming technical inspections via SMS or e-mail, information on compulsory liability insurance, the validity of the vignette or the number of previous owners of the vehicle. This will be followed early next year, for example, by online applications for a driver card or a driving licence with a professional qualification," said the Minister of Transport Martin Kupka. Next year, the Ministry of Transport is also preparing the introduction of the possibility of delivering ready-made driving licences or the possibility of electronic payment of administrative fees.
In the healthcare sector, next year will see the launch of the eRecipe application for registering deductible drug co-payments and a patient and doctor portal for easier communication and better data transfer.
