Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged the supply and marketing cooperatives to act as a bridge for the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the government to maintain close ties with farmers and strive to write a new chapter of quality development for supply and marketing cooperatives.
President Xi, who is also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks in an instruction on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives.
This federation, founded in 1954, is a national economic organisation responsible for the organisation, coordination and management of the operation of important agricultural means of production and agricultural and by-product products.
Over the past seven decades, the country's supply and marketing cooperatives have played a positive role in providing services to rural and urban residents, boosting the rural economy, helping to eradicate absolute poverty, raising farmers' incomes and promoting rural revitalization, Xi said.
He asked Party committees and governments at all levels to further strengthen their leadership and support for the activities of supply and marketing cooperatives.
Xi urged cooperatives to build integrated platforms that serve the production and livelihood of farmers and help promote the development of modern agriculture.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, issued an instruction concerning supply and sales cooperatives.
Li urged cooperatives to further promote the quality development of agricultural supply, distribution of agricultural products, as well as recycling and the use of renewable resources.
A meeting was held in Beijing on Thursday to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the federation.
Deputy Prime Minister Liu Guozhong, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, urged the supply and marketing cooperatives at the meeting to help promote integrated development of urban and rural areas and advance rural revitalization nationwide.
