China and Brazil have announced the creation of a community with a shared future for a fairer world and a more sustainable planet. The joint declaration was signed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasilia, Brazil, on Wednesday.
The two countries commemorated 50 years of diplomatic relations that have withstood changes in the international environment and maintained positive development. Brazil was the first developing country to establish a strategic partnership with China in 1993, and in 2012 it became the first Latin American country to have a comprehensive strategic partnership with China.
Brazil also reiterated its support for the one-China principle, recognising Taiwan as an integral part of Chinese territory.
The two countries have announced 2026 as the Year of Culture of China and Brazil to strengthen cultural ties and mutual understanding between their peoples. They described their joint partnership as a model of cooperation for the global South and developing countries.
