Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday stressed the need to strengthen reforms in a gradual and sustainable manner. Speaking at the opening of a study seminar at the Communist Party of China Party School in Beijing, he urged leaders at the provincial and ministerial levels to build a broad consensus and courage to face challenges.
Xi said China's reforms in the new era have produced significant results in practical, institutional and theoretical areas. Key principles include Party leadership, Marxism, socialism with Chinese characteristics, and strengthening social justice.
The President stressed the link between reforms and the rule of law and opening up to the world. The aim is to create a business-friendly environment and adapt to international economic standards.
The seminar was chaired by Li Qiang and attended by other senior officials including Vice President Chan Cheng. Xi's speech is seen as crucial to promoting reforms and achieving economic and social development goals this year.
