A recent survey conducted by CGTN in collaboration with Renmin University of China and the New Era Institute of International Communication shows the growing influence of BRICS countries in reshaping global governance. In the survey, 1,634 respondents from BRICS member countries expressed support for a more equitable international order and stressed the need for urgent reforms in global governance.
In the face of growing challenges such as economic globalization, conflicts between multilateralism and unilateralism, and the growing divide between the Global North and South, 96.2 % respondents agree that all countries should participate equally in international affairs. A significant 72.6 % support the necessary reforms to current international rules, which are largely under the control of developed countries.
The survey also shows a growing expectation for the United Nations to pay more attention to the interests of the Global South, with 83.9 % respondents in favour of a greater focus on their needs. Furthermore, 63.6 % call for greater transparency in decision-making processes and 60.2 % call for greater representation of developing countries.
China's contributions to BRICS, particularly in promoting peace, development and prosperity, have also been highly appreciated. The survey shows that China's development philosophy, including its people-centered approach and innovation-focused strategies, is widely supported by respondents. BRICS countries value China's role in strengthening infrastructure, sharing development experiences, and providing financial and technical support.
The survey highlights the importance of China's efforts to promote cooperation within BRICS as the group continues to push for reforms and greater representation of the Global South in international governance.
