Chinese Foreign Ministry closely monitoring the situation in Syria

China is closely monitoring the situation in Syria and hopes stability will return as soon as possible, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said on 8 December.

In a statement, the spokesman said the Chinese government is assisting Chinese nationals who want to leave Syria in a safe and orderly manner, and is maintaining contact with those still in Syria and offering them advice on how to stay safe.

The Chinese embassy in Damascus is still fulfilling its duties and will continue to provide all possible assistance to Chinese nationals, the spokesman added.
