Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Tuesday that China has full confidence in achieving this year's economic growth target and will continue to play the role of the world's biggest engine of economic growth.
Xi said this during a meeting with leaders of major international economic organisations in Beijing.
Referring to the fact that the world is currently in a new era of turbulence and change, where it once again finds itself at a crossroads, Xi said China is ready to work with major international economic organizations to promote multilateralism, foster international cooperation, promote the development of the countries of the global South, promote an equal and orderly multipolar world, promote economic globalization that benefits all, and build a just world of common development.
Leaders of the New Development Bank, the World Bank, the World Trade Organization and the International Monetary Fund have highly praised China's economic achievements. They also expressed optimism about China's development prospects and thanked China for its longstanding support for the work of international economic organisations.
Citing rising unilateralism and protectionism, leaders of major international economic organizations said they are ready to work closely with China, uphold multilateralism, promote free trade and economic globalization, contribute to the common development and prosperity of the world, and create a shared future for humanity.
Xi said that the economies of all countries face their own difficulties. All countries should work together to build an open world economy, focus on innovation, seize important opportunities such as the digital economy, artificial intelligence and low-carbon technologies, create new sources of economic growth, and promote the cross-border flow of knowledge, technology and human resources, Xi added.
Xi said that after more than 40 years of sustainable and rapid development, China's economy has entered a phase of high-quality development and has contributed about 30 percent to global economic growth.
Referring to China's development being open and inclusive, Xi said China will continue to open its market to the world, actively align with high-level international economic and trade rules, build a market-oriented, lawful and global trade environment, and build a new open economy system at a higher level to provide more new opportunities and share more development dividends with other countries.
The Chinese President welcomed the fact that international economic organizations continue to actively participate in China's proposed Belt and Road Initiative and promote the modernization of all countries of the world through peaceful development, mutually beneficial cooperation and common prosperity.
Xi also said that China hopes the United States will work with China to guide bilateral relations toward stable, healthy and sustainable development.
Trade wars, technology wars and tariff wars go against the trend of history and the laws of economics and will have no winners, Xi said, adding that China is willing to hold dialogue, expand cooperation and resolve differences with the US government.
