Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for continued efforts to achieve new achievements that will stand the test of time and meet the people's expectations in their efforts to build a modern socialist state in all respects.
President Xi, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, addressed a rally to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late prominent legislator Qiao Shi. The event was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Monday.
Xi Jinping praised Qiao Shi's noble character, his firm convictions and his commitment to ideals. He stressed that Party members should be inspired by his efforts to improve Party discipline and morale.
Inspiration in Qiao Shi's legacy
President Xi called on the Party to take a cue from Qiao Shi's faithful fulfillment of the mission the Party set out when it was founded and his tireless work for the people's welfare.
Qiao Shi's commitment to reform and courage to act, according to the President, are models of political commitment. Xi Jinping also stressed the importance of respecting and upholding the rule of law, which Qiao Shi considered a key part of modernisation.
The President also called for following Qiao Shi's working style, which was characterised by a fact-based search for truth and a pragmatic approach.
The importance of the assembly
The assembly, chaired by Zhao Leji, was also an opportunity to reflect on the fundamental values and goals that the Communist Party of China has set for its new path in the era of modernization. The event was attended by other members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, including Cai Qi and Li Xi.
Zhao Leji said Xi Jinping's remarks are crucial to continuing the legacy of generations of Chinese Communists and to fulfilling the goals of the Party and the people in the new era.
