Udo Jürgen Bockelmann, as he was originally called before he changed his name, has lived in Switzerland since 1977 and took Swiss citizenship in 2007, and has been one of the most successful performers in German-speaking countries. He suffered a severe heart attack while walking in his favourite Gottlieben on Lake Constance, where he lived, and died after being taken to hospital despite the best efforts of doctors on 21 December 2014.
