NEW YORK, Dec 23 - US President-elect Donald Trump has named billionaire investor Steve Feinberg as deputy secretary of defence.
"Stephen Feinberg will serve as Deputy Secretary of Defense and help make the Pentagon great again," said Trump on the social network Truth.
The president-elect called Feinberg "an extraordinarily successful businessman" and noted that he would work with Pete Hegseth, whom Trump had previously nominated for secretary of defense.
Sixty-four-year-old Feinberg graduated from Princeton University. In 1992, he founded Cerberus Capital Management, a private investment firm. During Trump's first presidential term, he headed the President's Intelligence Advisory Committee. Forbes estimates Feinberg's net worth at five billion dollars.
Just on his profile on the social network Truth Trump also reported on plans for the Panama Canal:
The Panama Canal is considered a VITAL national asset of the United States due to its vital role in the U.S. economy and national security. A secure Panama Canal is essential to U.S. commerce and rapid deployment of naval forces from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and significantly reduces shipping time to U.S. ports. The United States is the largest user of the Canal, with more than 70 % of all transits going to or from U.S. ports. Considered one of the wonders of the modern world, the Panama Canal opened 110 years ago and cost the United States enormous money and lives to build - 38,000 American men died in the jungle from mosquito infestations during its construction. Teddy Roosevelt was President of the United States at the time of its construction and understood the power of naval power and commerce. When President Jimmy Carter foolishly donated it for one dollar during his term, it was managed solely by Panama, not China or anyone else. Nor was it made available to Panama to charge the United States, its Navy and the corporations that do business in our country exorbitant prices and rates for passage. Our navy and commerce are treated very unfairly and unscrupulously. The fees charged by Panama are ridiculous, especially when you consider the extraordinary generosity that Panama has received from the United States. This complete 'rip-off' of our country will be stopped immediately.
The United States has an interest in the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the Panama Canal, which has always been understandable. We would NEVER and will NEVER allow it to fall into the wrong hands! It was not given for the benefit of others, but only as a token of cooperation with us and Panama. If the moral and legal principles of this generous gesture of donation are not respected, we will demand that the Panama Canal be returned to us, in full and without any doubt. Officials of Panama, please act accordingly!
