Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) on Thursday morning.
Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, met with teachers, students and researchers at the university. He was accompanied on the visit by Ho Yat Seng, Executive Director of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
MUST University, which was established after Macau returned to Chinese administration in 1999, has become the largest university in the region with the highest number of students.
President Xi was briefed on the progress of two key state laboratories at the university - one focused on the quality of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and the other on lunar and planetary sciences.
He praised traditional Chinese medicine as the jewel of Chinese civilization and called for its thorough inheritance, development, utilization and promotion worldwide.
Referring to China's achievements in lunar exploration, he stressed that Macau is proving its ability to conduct world-class scientific research.
In May 2023, Si wrote a letter to the MUST teachers and students who were involved in the development of the "Macao Science 1" satellite, which was jointly developed by mainland China and Macau.
During his visit to the Satellite Data Science and Application Center on Thursday, President Xi watched the real-time operation of the satellite through monitoring screens, underscoring the advances in high-technology in the region.
