Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Monday.
The meeting reviewed the report of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee after listening to and discussing the working reports of the leading groups of Party members of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), as well as the working reports of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.
The meeting also reviewed views on comprehensive support for ecological protection and quality development in the Yellow River watershed.
The meeting fully appreciated the work of the leading groups of Party members of the NPC Standing Committee, State Council, CPPCC National Committee, SPC and SPP, as well as the work of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat in the past year, and approved their work plans for 2025.
In 2025, the leading groups of Party members of these five state institutions must prioritize the implementation of key tasks, focus their strength on promoting reforms and make contributions to the advancement of China's qualitative development and modernization, the meeting said.
The secretariat should strengthen its political capabilities, consistently enforce strict administration and successfully carry out all tasks entrusted by the CPC Central Committee, it was further said.
The meeting also emphasized the importance of ecological protection and quality development in the Yellow River watershed and called for full enforcement of the Yellow River Protection Act.
According to the meeting's conclusions, there is a need to systematically strengthen water conservation capacity in the upper Yellow River, improve soil and water conservation in the middle reaches, and advance wetland protection and ecological stewardship in the lower reaches.
The meeting also called for ensuring the safety of critical dams, reservoirs and infrastructure; enhancing synergies between quality Yellow River development and the West Region's large-scale development and Central Region growth strategies; improving holistic and systematic protection of cultural heritage; and promoting the integration of cultural and tourism development.
