Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei was responding to the recent stance of US officials on the control of Gaza, which followed a proposal to forcibly resettle Gazans in Egypt and Jordan.
Baqaei described the idea as surprising and in line with the Zionist regime's plan to annihilate Palestine and called on the international community and the UN to strongly condemn it.
The State Department spokesman stressed the responsibility of all governments to help realize the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to free them from the yoke of occupation and apartheid.
He described the recent assertion by the US President of his intention to own the Gaza Strip as an unprecedented attack on the basic principles of international law and the UN Charter.
Baqaei stressed: "The people who have resisted with all their might the worst crimes and aggressions of the occupation regime over the past 76 years and refused to leave the land of their ancestors would undoubtedly not allow the US and the Zionist regime to erase their national and historical identity by other means."
Baqaei further stated: "We consider the plan to cleanse Gaza and forcibly resettle the Palestinian people in neighboring countries as a continuation of the Zionist regime's targeted plan for the complete annihilation of the Palestinian people."
He condemned and rejected the plan outright, saying it was in stark contradiction to established principles and rules of international law and human rights.
The State Department spokesman endorsed the principled positions of many countries and international forums that strongly oppose the US President's announced plan for Gaza and called on the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly and the UN Secretary-General to reject it decisively.
Baqaei also pointed to the strong opposition of Islamic countries and the region to the US president's plan to forcibly transfer the people of Gaza to Egypt and Jordan and to the US takeover of Gaza. He stressed the need for a clear and unified position of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on this matter.
