The "jumpers of the year" are citizens of Kazakhstan (255,424, +1,677 % yoy), China (173,814, +94 % yoy) and Israel (191,168, +63 % yoy). Visitors from Iceland, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Japan and Taiwan also saw increases in the tens of percentages. Tourists most often headed to Prague, South Moravia a South Bohemia Countries. They stayed the longest in Karlovy Vary (4.7 days) and Kralovehradecky county (4 days).
"Last year showed that the Czech Republic is one of the most sought-after destinations. In terms of arrivals, we have reached the highest ever figures since 2012. Year-on-year, the number of foreigners increased by almost 10 %, while as far as domestic travellers are concerned, we are at approximately the same levels. And that's great news for domestic tourism. The fact that the number of tourists is growing across the Czech Republic is also positive. Last year, we recorded an increase in ten regions, the largest being Prague, South Bohemia, Central Bohemia and the Karlovy Vary Region. It turns out that we are gradually diluting the interest of visitors who are discovering the lesser-known beauties of our country," summarizes the director of the Czech Tourism Centre - CzechTourism Frantisek Reismüller and adds: "Direct flights from distant destinations are a big part of this, and we are of course looking to launch more. As part of our campaigns this year, we will continue to promote the Czech Republic as a destination that offers a range of extraordinary experiences for active tourism enthusiasts, spa lovers, lovers of fine cuisine or all those who want to travel sustainably. And all this in an environment that is safe, as confirmed by the long-standing Global Peace Index (Global Peace Index), which regularly ranks the Czech Republic among the safest countries in the world. In 2024, we ranked 12th. This consistently high ranking increases the attractiveness of the Czech Republic not only for individual travellers, but also for the MICE segment, where security plays an important role in the decision-making of congress and incentive event organisers."
Growth across the country also in the last quarter of 2024
Looking purely at Q4 2024 - the total number of arrivals to mass accommodation increased by 7.1 % year-on-year and the number of overnight stays increased by 7 %. Both domestic (2.4 million) and international (2.6 million) guest arrivals increased. In total, almost 5 million people came to the Czech Republic and spent almost 11.7 million nights, staying on average 3.3 days. All regions except Moravian-Silesian and Olomouc recorded a year-on-year increase in arrivals in this period. The largest were Kralovehradecky (+11.2 %) and South Bohemia (+10.7 %).
