China has issued a solemn statement to Japan over its negative actions in Washington, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said.
Liu Jinsong, director-general of the Chinese Foreign Ministry's Asian Affairs Department, met with Yokochi Akira, head of Japan's embassy in China, on Monday to express serious concern and strong dissatisfaction over Japan's negative actions during the recent Japan-U.S. summit in Washington and in a joint statement, according to a statement released by the ministry.
US President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met officially for the first time in Washington on Friday.
At a joint press conference, Trump said he and Ishiba "agreed to cooperate even more closely in the fight against Chinese economic aggression", POLITICO reported. In a joint statement issued by the two sides, they repeated their old song, highlighting issues related to the East China Sea and South China Sea and saying that both leaders are opposed to "any attempts by China to change the status quo by force or coercion in the East China Sea".
