The beautiful squirrel or Prévost's squirrel (Callosciurus prevostii) is a tree squirrel from the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia
It's similar in size to our red squirrelThe body is about 25 cm long and the tail is 27 cm long. Massive individuals can weigh up to 500 g. The original Czech name was Veverka gorgeous, which was probably due to its distinctive colouring. It has a black back and tail, a white stripe along the flanks (either the full length of the body or it may be broken at the chest) and a brick red belly and paws.
A way of life
They feed mainly on fruits and other berries, seeds and occasionally small animals. It also feeds on oil and coconut palm plantations. It lives in pairs or small family groups and builds large nests high in the tree canopy or uses cavities. Gestation lasts 46-48 days. It has 2-4 young. It lives to be about 15 years old. It is found on Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, the island Celebes and other smaller islands. in 2008 it was recognized by the IUCN as LC (lower threat level)
