BEIJING - Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, chaired a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Friday to discuss a draft report on government activities to be submitted by the State Council for consideration by the upcoming session of the national legislature.
The meeting noted that the Chinese economy had maintained overall stability and made steady progress over the past year. The country has made significant progress in the pursuit of high-quality development and has maintained overall social stability, thus making significant progress in the advancement of China's modernisation.
It was said at the meeting that it was necessary to adhere to the measures adopted at the Central Conference on Economic Work, to adhere to the general principle of striving for progress while maintaining stability, and to fully and faithfully apply the new philosophy of development on all fronts.
According to the meeting, it is also necessary to accelerate the establishment of a new development model, consistently promote high-quality development, comprehensively deepen reforms, expand opening up to high standards, build a modern industrial system, and better coordinate development and security.
Efforts should be made to pursue more active and effective macro policies, expand domestic demand, promote the integrated development of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation, stabilise property and stock markets, prevent and mitigate risks in key areas and external shocks, stabilise expectations and stimulate vitality.
The meeting also stressed the need to promote sustained economic recovery, continuously improve the living standards of the people, maintain social harmony and stability, qualitatively implement the goals and objectives of the 14th Five-Year Plan, and lay a solid foundation for achieving a good start in the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030).
The annual session of the All-China People's Congress, China's top legislative body, will open on 5 March.
