China has announced that it will impose an additional 34% tariff on all imports from the US from April 10 in response to Washington's decision to raise tariffs on Chinese goods to a total of 54 %. According to the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council, this is unilateral intimidation that violates international trade rules, harms China's legitimate interests and threatens the global stability of supply chains.
At the same time, China filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO), accusing the US of serious violations of the rules and distortions of the multilateral trading system. Beijing called on the US to immediately lift unilateral measures and to resolve disputes on the basis of equality and mutual respect.
China's Ministry of Commerce also announced that it is imposing export controls on seven types of medium and heavy rare earths, including elements such as samarium, dysprosium and yttrium, with immediate effect. These materials have dual uses and the ministry said regulating their export is a common international practice.
The measures are aimed at protecting national security and fulfilling international non-proliferation obligations. China has also expressed its willingness to hold dialogues on control mechanisms and to promote legitimate international trade.
