In three days, 10 more UNRWA staff were killed in the Gaza Strip in 72 hours. This was stated in an October 30 report on the organization's website.
"In the last 72 hours, 10 more UNRWA staff members have been killed, bringing the total number of UNRWA staff killed since 7 October to 63," the organisation said.
The UN added that some 672,000 IDPs are sheltering in 149 UNRWA facilities in the Gaza Strip.
"The ability to provide life-saving assistance is further hampered by the 36-hour communication disruption that affected the entire Gaza Strip, including humanitarian organizations, between 27 October and the morning hours of 29 October," the organisation added.
The day before, thousands of people broke into UNRWA warehouses in the Gaza Strip and flour and basic supplies were stolen. As Thomas White, the organization's communications director in the Palestinian Authority, noted, civil order is beginning to break down in the enclave and people are desperate.
The humanitarian convoy system in its current form is doomed to failure, White said, because of insufficient trucks, slow processes and other reasons.
On 7 October, Hamas subjected Israeli territory to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and also attacked border areas in the south of the country. On the same day, the Israeli side launched retaliatory strikes. According to the latest figures, the death toll from the Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip has risen to 8,300 people. More than 21 000 people have been affected. On the Israeli side, 5.4 thousand people were injured and more than 1.4 thousand were killed.
The Palestinians are trying to return the border between the two countries to the lines that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War. Palestine wants to create its own state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and make East Jerusalem its capital. Israel rejects the conditions set.
