Frank Borman, the American astronaut who led the crew of the Apollo 8 spacecraft that made the first manned flyby of the Moon in 1968, dies at the age of 95. This is according to a statement released on 9 November by Bill Nelson, director of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
It is clarified that Borman died on Tuesday, November 7.
In addition to leading the crew of the Apollo 8 mission, Borman was a veteran of Gemini 7. The astronaut spent 14 days in low-Earth orbit and also made his first approach in space when he came close to the Gemini 6 spacecraft.
