The presentation of this title is an extremely important achievement in the dramaturgy, as it is the first time that the name John Neumeier appears in the repertoire of the National Theatre Ballet, which ranks among the world's great companies. The production not only satisfies the audience's expectations and cries for a dramatic work, but also offers the soloists a challenge to develop their acting potential in a deep and sensitive way.
John Neumeier, a native of Milwaukee, is a world-renowned American choreographer and artistic director of the Hamburg Ballet, which he has led since 1973. Neumeier has created over 160 ballets and has worked with most of the major dance companies around the world. He is best known as an excellent storyteller.
Tram to Touha station is a profound psychological story set in the southern United States that follows the lives of Stella, her husband Stanley, and her sister Blanche. It has become a classic of American drama. John Neumeier was inspired by the story to create the ballet, which was first performed in 1983.
The premiere of the production at the Estates Theatre is a continuation of the dramaturgical line of narrative chamber titles of world dance theatre inspired by important literary works, such as ballets Kafka: The Trial or Leonce & Lena.
WARNING: The production depicts violence and features gunshots.
