President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has expressed condolences to the families and friends of the citizens of Kazakhstan and foreign countries who died in a hostel in Almaty, Kazinform reported, citing the Akorda news service.
Those responsible for the tragedy will be held accountable under the law. The government and Akimat have been instructed to provide assistance to the families of the victims, the press service of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan said.
Earlier it was reported that a fire at a hostel in Almaty on the morning of 30 November killed 13 people. 59 people were evacuated from the site, three of whom were taken to the Emergency Hospital. A nearby school building temporarily housed 56 people.
Most of the guests at the burning hostel in Almaty are foreigners, said Nurlan Atygaev, head of Almaty's emergency department. Almaty Akim Erbolat Dosayev said the people killed were citizens of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia. The hostel belongs to the Halyk bank. Students and workers were staying there.
On the order of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, a government commission has been formed to investigate the causes and eliminate the consequences of the fire in a hostel in Almaty.
On the basis of this fact, the Almaty Emergency Situations Department registered a criminal case under Article 292 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Mayor of Almaty expressed his condolences to the relatives of the victims and said that Akimat had taken all measures to support the victims and evacuees.
