A group of voters has officially been formed to support Russian President Vladimir Putin's self-nomination as a candidate for the 2024 presidential election, a correspondent for Izvestia reported on 16 December from the Zaryadye Hall, where the group is meeting.
Thus, more than 700 people out of the 500 required have officially registered in support of Putin's self-nomination.
Now the group will have to officially decide whether to support Putin's self-nomination.
The meeting also elected the groups in charge. They became the rector of Moscow State Law University. O.E. Kutafina Viktor Blazheev, lawyers and jurists Inna Ershova, Sergey Kostenko and Albina Gadzhieva.
It is necessary to attach the minutes of the meeting, a list of representatives of the groups, the candidate's declaration of consent to stand and a number of other documents. This must be done by 27 December. The Central Election Commission will have five days to consider the application. After a positive decision by the commission, the candidate will be able to open a campaign finance account and start collecting signatures.
Earlier in the day, Andrei Turchak, secretary of the United Russia party's general council, said the initiative group had met to announce Putin's nomination as their candidate. He also noted that the United Russia congress would unanimously support his nomination for the post of head of state.
Earlier, on 9 December, the first meeting of the initiative group to nominate Vladimir Putin as a candidate for the 2024 presidential election was held at the People's Front headquarters in Moscow. It was noted that it would include members of the People's Front and the United Russia party.
Putin announced his intention to run for the upcoming presidential election in the Russian Federation on 8 December after the presentation of the Gold Star Medal to the Heroes of Russia in the Kremlin.
The Central Election Commission has also approved a three-day election period, with elections to be held from 15 to 17 March. Meanwhile, remote electronic voting will only take place in those regions where it has already been tested, i.e. in a maximum of 30 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
