Prague - Miroslav Ševčík has received the decision on his dismissal from the position of Dean of the Faculty of National Economy of the University of Economics in Prague. The dismissal becomes final. Ševčík informed the Czech News Agency this morning. He will defend himself against the appeal in court.
Petr Dvořák, rector of the University of Economics in Prague, decided on the appeal last week Wednesday. The decision takes effect upon delivery to Ševčík, the faculty will now be headed by a statutory deputy dean. The election of the new dean will be announced by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of National Economy of the VŠE (NF VŠE) according to the Senate's rules of procedure.
"I have taken over the decision of the Rector of the VŠE, Dvořák, to dismiss me from the position of Dean of the NF VŠE. The text is based, among other things, on false claims about the existence of a previous 'statement of the Academic Senate of the VŠE NF'," Ševčík wrote to ČTK this morning.
Dvořák wanted to hand the decision to Ševčík personally on Wednesday morning last week, but the rector said he refused to accept it. Ševčík said he did not refuse to accept the appeal, but only asked the rector to follow the standard procedure and send it to him by mail or data mailbox. According to Kateřina Macháčková from the rectorate's press department, the decision on the appeal was sent via data mailbox by the previous university.
According to the Higher Education Act, the Rector of the University may remove a faculty member on his/her own initiative, after the opinion of the Academic Senate of the Faculty and with the consent of the University-wide Academic Senate, in the event that the Dean fails to perform his/her duties in a serious manner or seriously harms the interest of the University or the Faculty.
At the end of October, the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Economics agreed that it could not comment on the rector's motion to dismiss the dean of the faculty, Miroslav Ševčík. The Academic Senate of the entire university agreed to the proposal to dismiss Ševčík in June. According to Rector Dvořák, whether such a statement by the academic senate of the faculty is sufficient is up to legal interpretation.
Ševčík said these are political decisions that damage the university far more than his assessment of the prime minister. Ševčík described Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) as a moron and EU Commissioner Věra Jourová as Jouda. According to the rector, this is not a freely expressed opinion, as Ševčík says, but an unacceptable disparagement of a public figure.
Ševčík confirmed to the Czech News Agency on Tuesday that he will defend himself against the appeal in court. He added that he has prepared a legal procedure to defend himself against the appeal. The election of the new dean will be announced by the Academic Senate of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Economics according to the Senate's rules of procedure. Ševčík does not plan to stand for election as a candidate for the post of dean. He said that he does not want to harm the Faculty of National Economy and will not run now, but will sue.
