During a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the G20 summit, Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasised the need to strengthen bilateral communication and cooperation so that both countries can effectively address their concerns and promote joint development.
Li recalled that China and Germany are important economic and trade partners. Since establishing diplomatic relations 53 years ago, the two countries have continuously strengthened dialogue and cooperation, contributing to their joint development. The Prime Minister emphasised that mutual respect is a fundamental principle of Sino-German relations and that win-win cooperation is their hallmark.
Li Qiang expressed China's readiness to strengthen strategic communication with Germany, respect its core interests and consolidate the political foundation for the development of bilateral relations. Pragmatic cooperation in all areas, including new energy, smart manufacturing, biomedicine, hydrogen technology and intelligent transport management, is also expected to be expanded to promote industrial transformation and new impetus for cooperation.
Prime Minister Li recalled that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union, and called on Germany to help the EU view its relations with China from a long-term perspective, with a broader vision and a more open approach.
Both sides also emphasised the importance of international cooperation within the UN and G20, support for multilateralism, free trade and improving global governance. Chancellor Merz praised the positive development of German-Chinese relations and Germany's readiness to play a constructive role in promoting dialogue between the EU and China.
Li and Merz agreed on the importance of deeper political, economic and technological partnerships that promote global peace, stability and development.
