The Ministry of Industry and Trade has announced two new calls for support for the modernisation of local distribution networks (LDS) from the Operational Programme Technology and Applications for Competitiveness (OP TAK). Under both calls, system operators will be able to submit applications from 2 April 2024 to 30 December 2024. The calls will enable energy savings in LDS and increase their capacity.
Operators of local distribution networks (LDS) will be able to apply for subsidies for their modernisation next year. One billion crowns are available under two subsidy calls from the Operational Programme Technology and Applications for Competitiveness (OP TAK).
"The modernisation of local distribution systems will help us in our efforts to develop the Czech energy sector. These two challenges will support operators in purchasing equipment to reduce losses in the distribution system and will also help install smart elements in the distribution system, giving consumers the opportunity to better manage their electricity consumption and thus reduce their costs," describes Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Síkela.
The aim of the call Energy infrastructure - savings in the LDS is the saving of primary energy in the distribution of electricity. The support covers the purchase and installation of transformers, substations and other retrofitting.
The aim of the call Energy infrastructure - RES in the LDS is to strengthen the capacity of local distribution networks and increase their RES-connection capacity through the development of smart grids and conventional grid reinforcement. The support covers both the upgrading of power infrastructure and the installation of smart grid elements.
"Firstly, we believe that the challenges will effectively support the achievement of energy efficiency targets, which is one of the fundamental pillars of the transition to a low-carbon economy. Second, we expect faster development of smart grids and conventional grid reinforcement in the Czech Republic, which is essential for the rapid development of renewable energy sources," Says Marian Piecha, Senior Director of the EU Funds Section.
The allocation for each call is set at CZK 0.5 billion. For both calls, eligible applicants are distribution system operators with less than 90 000 customer points of consumption. The maximum amount of support is set at 50 % of the proven eligible expenditure. In case of a significant overhang of quality projects, the OP TAK Managing Authority is entitled to increase the allocation for each call adequately.
Those interested in applying for a subsidy can contact Agency for Enterprise and Innovation, which is the intermediary body of OP TAK and helps with the preparation of grant applications and project administration. The Agency is represented in all regions of the country and also operates the Green Line 800 800 777
