SANAA, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi rebels said Saturday that recent U.S. and British airstrikes on their positions would not deter them from continuing attacks on Israel, and vowed to carry out more strikes soon. The rebels, who control much of northern Yemen including the capital Sanaa and the strategic Red Sea port city of Hodeida, condemned the air strikes in a statement as a violation of Yemen's sovereignty and "blatant aggression" in support of Israel.
In a statement carried by the state news agency Saba, the Houthi group vowed to continue its military operation against "the Israeli enemy".
According to US Central Command, a US Navy destroyer fired a Tomahawk cruise missile at a radar site in northern Sanaa before dawn on Saturday. The strike followed a series of similar attacks by US and British naval and air forces a day earlier.
The US and Britain said their strikes were aimed at deterring the Houthi group from further attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea, a vital waterway for global trade.
The insurgent group has recently stepped up attacks on so-called Israeli-linked ships passing through the Red Sea to show support for the Palestinians and pressure Israel to end its attacks and blockade of Gaza.
