Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on Tuesday, January 30, that expands workers' rights to compensation for unpaid wages. The changes were made to Part 1 of Article 236 of the Russian Labour Code. According to the text of the law, employers are now obliged to pay compensation to those employees who have not received their wages on time. Also important is the fact that the court recognizes the employee's right to receive the money.
It will now be guaranteed that the payment of interest on the employer's debts will be calculated not only on the amounts due that have already accrued but also on those that should have been received for a certain period.
Earlier, on 25 January, Putin said that the minimum wage in Russia would be raised. He noted that wages will be increased depending on the development of the economy and on the basis of budgetary possibilities. According to the President, it is impossible to regulate the level of wages in the economy, as it depends on the market, but it is necessary to support people who work in the social sphere.
