OTTAWA, March 4 /TASS/. Canada has imposed sanctions on six other Russians, including Vadim Kalinin, head of the prison in the Charp settlement where Alexei Navalny died, according to the Canadian Foreign Ministry's website.
Another person is Igor Rakitin, head of the office of the Russian Federal Prison Service for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. Also sanctioned were Alexander Varapaev (born 1988), Marina Bobekova (born 1986), Ekaterina Frolova (year of birth not specified) and Kirill Nikiforov (born 1992). Their positions were not given.
It can be assumed that Varapaev is an investigator of the office of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Bobek is a former prosecutor of the Moscow Prosecutor's Office, Frolova is an employee of the Moscow Prosecutor's Office, and Nikiforov is a judge of the Kovrov City Court in the Vladimir Region.
Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly had earlier announced that Ottawa would impose sanctions on Russia over Navalny's death. She said the restrictions would apply to six Russian officials, including senior officials and high-ranking employees of the Russian prosecutor's office, judiciary and prison system.
On 16 February, the office of the Russian Federal Prison Service for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug announced that Navalny had died in prison after he became ill and fainted after a walk.
